My Pink Lumia 800

It's been a month since I started using Nokia Lumia 800. I have to admit, the promoting efforts of my sister on WP7 to me and the rest of my family has come to great success. I bought the pink one and dad bought the black one.
After she teached me how to use it at that time, me and my father instantly ordered 2 sets straight from Singapore, because it hasn't launched in Indonesia yet. Maybe most of you who haven't seen a lumia 800 before can look at this hands on video (which also happens to be of the same pink model that I use):
Before I used lumia, I have an iPhone 3G and a Blackberry Onyx. Simply put, both of them were a pain in the ass. I installed a God-knows-what version of the OS that didn't match with the hardware, hence it always tests my patience every time I use it. My BB is no different matter as well. From those two phone, my BB is only used for BBM and other social network services like twitter, foursquare , and koprol, and my iPhone was used for push email, music, read documents and some simple games; therefore I'll probably compare my Lumia with my 2 previous devices.
I first knew about Lumia from Aulia's tweets that had frequently reviewed N9 (https://plus.google.com/104291780690152384968/posts/NeEFbMEZ4p2). For no apparent reason, I was not interested in the OS it used. However, I immediately fell in love with Lumia 800 when I watched this video
I'm a Batman fangirl, and what serendipity Nokia released a limited edition Batman-themed Lumia. The Batman logo at the back was just too awesome for me. Don't even get me started with the themes and skin it was really brilliant. Unfortunately all my hopes are let down when I found out that they're only going to produce forty of them and I found unit number 38 in another YouTube video. Injustice.
After I saw the pink model, the wanting feeling to own the phone impulsed. I'm crazy for pink. Almost all of the things I own are in pink, even my electronic devices. However, to find a phone that has a pink model that is not cheap-looking, or a pink-colored casing or body, is a challenge in itself. What I love about lumia is that the pink color is very vibrant, very pretty to use, and I bet most girls and even guys would think the same as well. I'm currently using a plastic bumper case from the box, which also happens to be pink, in fear that my phone gets smeared. My sister always says that since it is a polycarbonate casing, even though it's scratched, the color will not fade and instead stay pink. That's what I've been bragging about to my friends even though I know it's pointless to do so. But that just goes to show how great and pretty the color is, not shocking pink but also not baby pink as well. I also have to be careful because the phone can easily slip under my hands if I'm not careful, and that also why I use the bumper.
The interface of WP7, dubbed the metro UI, is, in my opinion, a very radical interface. It's an outstanding innovation, the direct opposite of any blackberry OS. Although it takes a few seconds to understand that the menu is navigated by swiping to the sides (maybe you guys can check out http://uxdesign.smashingmagazine.com/2011/12/20/introduction-designing-windows-phone-7-metro/ to get what I mean), the color combination used in metro UI is much simpler compared to other OS. Typography is naively plain on a plain canvas, very simple icons, clickable text gives the impression of a very neat, clutter-free interface. Even though not all apps can multi-task, the tiles on top of the wallpaper can give live updates about the apps which are placed in the tiles. For example, in foursquare, the tile displays what rank we've achieved so far. We can also customize which apps to put in which tiles.
I think 'ME' is very useful for me who has several email accounts as well as social media accounts. ME consists of 'profile', 'notification' and 'what's new'. ME combines all notification as well as updates from various social media apps into one (I combined windows live, facebook, linkedin, and twitter), even though the update process tends to be pretty slow. It's still a useful app for me nevertheless.
The contacts migration from my iPhone and BB to my Nokia is also very easy. Very different to BB, I only need to transfer via Bluetooth and the whole process takes just under 2 minutes; all the data from my old contacts from my two phones are immediately copied to my Lumia. In addition, since I use full names in my contacts, Lumia automatically integrates all of my Facebook contacts with my phone contacts. Hence, my friend's data is pretty much complete, including avatar, email, social media account, phone number, etc. This contacts migration process is very different from the one that I had to do with my BB.
It goes without saying that Microsoft Office for WP7 really helped my productivity life. This suite includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and also OneNote. File transfer can't be done via Windows connector for Mac; rather, they use SkyDrive to integrate data on my laptop with data on my Lumia. Other alternatives such as office 365 and sharepoint can also be used.
WP7 also has a personal assistant. Microsoft Tellme is, to be honest, limited to a few commands such as 'text', 'call', 'find', 'open', 'start' etc. Even though is nowhere near as cool as Siri, it suffices my basic needs to call, text messages, and do some Google searches.
The coolest application in this Lumia 800 is definitely the Nokia Drive. Nokia Drive is used as a navigations system that provides real-time GPS tracking. I have used to to find routes with a car and this application succeeds in helping me with no trouble whatsoever. Personally, this cool value matches that of Siri's navigation capabilities. You can watch the preview video at:
Marketplace in windows phone provides many interesting and various applications, which is very different with the BB App World. Even though I can't use marketplace for Indonesian addresses, I used my Singaporean address to register myself. The apps are just as varied as in Apple's App Store; there's even the Accurate Tuner to tune my cello and an Agile Metronome to help me practice.
Camera quality is really satisfactory. The 8MP camera includes settings for scenes, white balance, exposure value, ISO, metering mode, effects, contrast, saturation, focus mode, resolution, as well as flicker reduction. I think that with buying Lumia, I also save myself from buying a pocket camera. Now when I hang out with my friends, we always use my Lumia for taking pictures. Many photo processing apps are also available on the market place.
One thing that has stood out to be a major disadvantage in my Lumia, though, is its battery life. I realize that applications like Facebook or Twitter really consumes my battery. In a day, if I use it to only listen to music and reading manga (another plus in Lumia, a manga reader!) , it doesn't last more than 5 hours. If I continually check my Twitter timeline, then it doesn't last more than 3 hours. However this is not much of a problem for me anyway, because I always bring my charger everywhere and I even have a car charger. I really hope the next OS update will offer improvements to repair for this battery problem.
All in all, I am absolutely satisfied with my Lumia 800. I don't know if my BB was just that horrible or if Lumia was just too awesome.Rumor is that Lumia will launch in Jakarta around February or March. 780 SGD is really worth the price with all the experience I felt. Lumia 800 can also be bundled with Monster headsets. I think it's an added value for you guys because the quality is pretty good and the models are also really fancy. Lucky for me I got the pink-colored headsets.

Here's the preview for Nokia Purity HD, the stereo headset by Monster:
And if you guys are mesmerized by Siri, I suggest you guys try out Nokia Drive first. Personally, due to Siri being overrated, knowing that internet connection here is pretty much limited and our pronunciations aren't as good as expats, Nokia instead really helps you to find routes, including small roads and shortcuts in Jakarta to help you on the road.
If you guys generally have no problems with the battery life, I really suggest that you purchase this phone if you really are looking for one. Buying a BB phone is a waste of money only for BBM's sake. There are tons of other viable solutions to replace BBM, such as Whatsapp, emal, Twitter DM, Facebook message, or even just sms and calls. Rather than buying a new BB, I suggest that you keep your old BB (if you absolutely need it), and use a Lumia 800 as your main phone, so you can use your BB like a CDMA phone and your Lumia as a GSM phone.
